project 1 - brainstorm and proposal

what do i want to make work about this semester? what is important to me?

one topic i could definitely make art about for the rest of my life is religion. i grow more and more frustrated with it every day, wondering why it still has such a tremendous impact on our society in an otherwise very modern world. religion is nothing short of problematic to the progression of the human race and our culture in almost every way.

but what can i say about it that hasn't been said already? or maybe what can i do about it that hasn't been done? is it necessary that i be so completely original with my art in regards to this particular struggle? or will repeating the same message that others have just a little differently help it to suddenly get through to the masses one day?

the message of course being that god is imaginary.

6. Write a proposal describing your idea and post to your blog.

project 1 proposal:

[animated short]
comment on the self-destructive nature of religious customs & tradition through the following example

- the common communion cup spreads herpes simplex 1

storyboard:

line of people receiving communion in a church
visuals are very rhythmic. you see a closeup of mouths switching back and forth between the wine duty communion assistant and each recipient, then a white cloth sweeps across the rim of a golden chalice.

audio on loop:

"the blood of christ."
"amen."
*wipe chalice*

"the blood of christ."
"amen."
*wipe chalice*

etc..

then, without any change in tone of voice, the audio becomes:

"the blood of christ."
"HSV."
*wipe chalice*

"the blood of christ."
"HSV."
*wipe chalice*

"the blood of christ."
"HSV."
*wipe chalice*

ect...

the end
